Equity-Minded Reform in Academic Reward Systems

Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 | Hibben Auditorium | 5:30 Reception | 6:00 p.m. Lecture

It is commonplace for universities to say they foster inclusive excellence and support diverse faculty and diverse forms of scholarship. However, too many institutions maintain narrow definitions of scholarship, criteria, metrics of impact, and systems of peer review that disregard, and devalue engaged scholarship and exclude the critical work of diverse faculty.

Dr. O'Maera's talk will outline the key areas where we need academic reward system reform the most and provide rationales for why change is needed now.  Evidence-based strategies for better inclusion of diverse faculty and diverse forms of scholarship in reward systems are provided.
